{"id":68,"date":"2008-03-10T13:25:55","date_gmt":"2008-03-10T19:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nealbreeding.com\/blogs\/?p=68"},"modified":"2008-06-10T13:51:26","modified_gmt":"2008-06-10T19:51:26","slug":"need-a-pdf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.nealbreeding.com\/blogs\/need-a-pdf\/","title":{"rendered":"Need a PDF?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many of my customers have a need for creating PDF documents.\u00c2\u00a0 Most of them don&#8217;t need anything fancy and are usually on a tight budget.\u00c2\u00a0 If they aren&#8217;t, I recommend purchasing Acrobat from Adobe.\u00c2\u00a0 That is Acrobat, not Acrobat Reader.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 And of course, they have muddied the waters from there, there are three versions, Standard, Pro, and Pro Extended.<\/p>\n<p>How about a FREE solution though. Those solutions are my favorite.\u00c2\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t need any of the extra features, then PDFCreator may be the solution for you.\u00c2\u00a0 It is open source, so it is spyware free, but keep reading before installing.<\/p>\n<p>It can be downloaded at: <a href=\"http:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/pdfcreator\/\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/pdfcreator\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>1) Go to the link, click on the bar that says &#8220;Download PDFCreator&#8221; (currently it is a green button)<\/p>\n<p>2) On the next screen, click on the &#8220;Download&#8221; button on the same line as &#8220;PDFCreator&#8221; package.<\/p>\n<p>3) On the next screen, click on the &#8220;PDFCreator-X_X_X_setup.exe&#8221; link; note &#8211; the x&#8217;s represent numbers, example the current version is 0.9.5 so the file name would be  \tPDFCreator-0_9_5_setup.exe.<\/p>\n<p>4) The file should be downloaded now.\u00c2\u00a0 Run the downloaded file<\/p>\n<p>5) Normally, the next few screens will act like this (the following is for version 0.9.5):<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Click Next -&gt;<br \/>\nAccept the agreement, Next -&gt;<br \/>\nStandard Install -&gt; Next<br \/>\nName for the printer -&gt; Next<br \/>\nFolder location -&gt; Next<br \/>\nPDF Creator Toolbar -&gt;\u00c2\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #f1280d;\"><strong>STOP! Read the following note, then watch on the next screen<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> The installation will automatically want to install a PDF toolbar.\u00c2\u00a0 I would opt out of this option. I don&#8217;t think extra toolbars do anything but slow down your system and web browsing.<\/p>\n<p>The next screen will have you select the Components, uncheck PDF Creator Toolbar&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Click Next and continue following the directions on the screen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It is installed, what now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So you have it installed, how do you use it, your ask?
