{"id":354,"date":"2009-09-24T15:43:24","date_gmt":"2009-09-24T20:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nealbreeding.com\/blogs\/?p=354"},"modified":"2009-09-24T22:04:55","modified_gmt":"2009-09-25T03:04:55","slug":"ford-says-drive-one-i-wish-i-could","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.nealbreeding.com\/blogs\/ford-says-drive-one-i-wish-i-could\/","title":{"rendered":"Ford says &#8220;Drive One.&#8221;  &#8212; I wish I could"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>So here are the Facts as of today, September 24, 2009:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We bought a Ford\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ford_Taurus_X\" target=\"_blank\">Freestyle<\/a> in May of 2007. \u00c2\u00a0We changed the oil and performed the routine maintenance according to the maintenance schedule.<\/p>\n<p>July 2009 -\u00c2\u00a0Vehicle&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0transmission light came on when starting it, vehicle died, restarted, light went off.<\/p>\n<p>August 2009 &#8211; Vehicle&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0transmission light came on when starting it,\u00c2\u00a0vehicle\u00c2\u00a0did not drive correctly until it was restarted.<\/p>\n<p>September 2, 2009 &#8211; Brought the vehicle in for service, local Ford dealership could not get the vehicle to mess up; recommend bringing it back when it is messed up, without shutting it off. (I don&#8217;t fault them for this, they had good advice to bring it straight there)<\/p>\n<p>September 18, 2009 &#8211; Vehicle&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0transmission light came on when starting it; took it to the dealership for them to diagnose the problem<\/p>\n<p>September 21, 2009 &#8211; Informed the bad part was the &#8220;Throttle Body&#8221; and that it was not covered under the 60k power train warranty.<\/p>\n<p>September 23, 2009 &#8211; Talked to local dealership and told the part is NATIONALLY<strong> back ordered UNTIL DECEMBER 2009.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Praise to Ford for offering to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cover the cost      of a rental car<\/li>\n<li>trying to expedite      the part replacement<\/li>\n<li>cover all but      $150 of the repair<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Major Criticism to Ford for:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Not covering a      rental car for the entire time we are without our car.\u00c2\u00a0<strong>They will pay      only up to $550<\/strong>,      translation not much more than two  weeks.<\/li>\n<li>Trying to expedite      the replacement part \u00e2\u20ac\u201c sounds good, but the millions of Freestyle owners      having the same problem are probably being told the same thing?<\/li>\n<li>Not covering the      cost of the entire repair. \u00c2\u00a0This part was so poorly designed  the      supplier went out of business.\u00c2\u00a0 The new supplier is redesigning\u00c2\u00a0the      part. I would call this a defective part. I was told because it is not      a\u00c2\u00a0safety\u00c2\u00a0issue; there can&#8217;t be a recall on it. I understand that, but this same car had crappy brakes, and Ford extended the warranty for them, they could do the same.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>More details:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ford has killed the Freestyle (which was renamed the\u00c2\u00a0Taurus-X for 2008 and 2009 models).\u00c2\u00a0 The 2010 line up does not include the Taurus-X, which has killed the resale\/trade-in value. This problem leaves us up-side down in our payments if we wanted to try to replace this vehicle.<\/li>\n<li>This vehicle was our 6th (and our last) Ford between Jennifer and myself (others including Escort, Explorer Sport, Explorer Sport Trac, Explorer, &amp; a F150). \u00c2\u00a0None ever had any major problems and routine\u00c2\u00a0maintenance\u00c2\u00a0was done on all of them.<\/li>\n<li> While I appreciate what Ford has offered to do to help us, it is not enough when we are  paying a $500 note for a vehicle to sit at the dealership and continue to\u00c2\u00a0depreciate\u00c2\u00a0for the next 3 months.<\/li>\n<li>Please feel free to share my experience with anyone you know.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So here are the Facts as of today, September 24, 2009: We bought a Ford\u00c2\u00a0Freestyle in May of 2007. \u00c2\u00a0We changed the oil and performed the routine maintenance according to the maintenance schedule.
